Basic Life Support and Safety at NDU, Islamabad

Resilience building, at apex NDU

The National Defence University (NDU) is one of the leading universities of Pakistan. This apex Alma Mater has maintained its prestige in the country over the course of years, as an institution of higher military and contemporary studies.

Recently, its acclaimed FCS / IR launched a disaster preparedness program together with PRIDEA- Pakistan Relief Intl. Disasters & Emergencies Academy to build the resilience of nation. At the outset of this well needed initiative, BLS&S – Basic Life Support and Safety training was imparted to a vibrant bunch of young students and faculty members. Right next to the captivating Margalla – the Himalayan foothills- two wonderful teams comprising over 44 males and females, participated in a comprehensive training session. This day-long and hands-on course entailed a series of integrated components to let trainees grasp valuable knowledge, keenly. As the final point, a surprise simulation engaged both the teams to step ahead and implement their acquired sets of life saving skills, on the scene of a mock critical emergency. Their capacities and competencies were closely monitored by the experts to gauge overall performance within a 7 minutes time slot, allocated to each team of first responders. Those successful, are entitled to take other courses according to their aptitude and become talented members of a CERT- Campus / Community Emergency Response Team, which could make a real difference.

Keeping in view the intensity and frequency of natural disasters in Pakistan as well as in the region, PRIDEA inspires individuals, communities and institutions to partake in such events to “be prepared”. A mere 4 to 6 hours of realistic training may help save precious lives, when and wherever needed.
