SUMMARY:Radio Commuincation
DESCRIPTION:The Radio Communication is like a backbone of any relief operation in complex emergencies. We have witnessed its importance during earthquake relief operation 2005 in Pakistan when there was no mean of communication available and our radios remained operational. A few handhelds\, a couple of portable VHF radios and some home-brew antennas played a vital role keeping us in-touch with other teams\, to our Base of Operation Mansehra and HQ in Islamabad concurrently. Undoubtedly\, emergency communication is one of the significant segments of the entire endeavor for establishing an efficient and effective mechanism of disaster management. \nThe objectives of the courses: \nThese courses aim to provide practical models and methods to assist aid agencies and other stake holders in the field and to establish an EmRad hub to manage radio traffic and relay imperative messages.  Gradually\, the audience will learn\, using handhelds and portables\, staying tuned with each other\, concerned nodes and offices on assigned frequencies. They will also be taught the use of repeaters to avoid attenuations and to gain optimized efficacy and efficiency without depletion of time\, during an emergency relief operation. \n\nThe brief history and introduction to various means of communication\nThe role and importance of radio communication in emergencies\nAmateur Radio and PARS\nAmateur Radio Bands\nTypes of Transceivers\nPTA Regulations for Radio Communication in Pakistan\nEthics and international code of conduct whilst being “On Air”\nThe Phonetic Alphabets\nThe “Q” codes\nCall Signs\nIntroduction to 70 cm and 2meter bands\nOperating the VHF transceivers\nPower saving techniques\nPotential Hazards\nMaintaining Logs\nGroup Task\nEvaluation
